About CDTs
What is a Clinical Dental Technician?
A Clinical Dental Technician or CDT is a registered Dental Care Professional who is trained and qualified to provide a range of Denture Services direct to patients – services that were previously only available through your Dentist.
While some CDTs work as part of a multi-disciplinary team within a dental practice, many operate from their own independent clinic. Either way, it is the priority of every Clinical Dental Technician on Denture Clinic Directory to deliver the highest standards of care, putting the interests of their patients first.
Direct Denture Clinic can situate a CDT in your area and put you in touch with someone who can make and fit your Complete Dentures, Partial Dentures or Copy Dentures, or even carry out your Denture Relines or repairs with a Denture Repair Service.

What will my appointment with a Clinical Dental Technician involve?
During your first appointment, your CDT will undertake a detailed clinical evaluation so they can reach a diagnosis in order to create a detailed treatment plan that is tailored exactly to your needs.
They may undertake one or all of the following:
- Investigate your dental and medical history in full
- Take x-rays and photographic images of your mouth
- Distinguish between normal and abnormal effects of aging, especially relating to tooth loss
- Make referrals to other dental professionals where necessary (for Partial Dentures)
- Advise you on how to take care of your Dentures and achieve optimum oral health
Your Clinical Dental Technician will describe the different types of dentures available and the technical procedures involved so you can make an informed choice about the treatment you receive. Together, you and your CDT can then decide upon the right course of action for you.
Can I see a CDT without seeing my dentist?
Patients who have experienced total tooth loss can be treated by a Clinical Dental Technician directly who will make and fit their Complete Dentures. However, if you need Partial Dentures or you have Dental Implants or some of your own natural teeth remaining, you must be first be seen or referred by your Dentist before a CDT can begin your treatment.
What qualifies a CDT to work on my Dentures?
With many years experience working as Dental Technicians, CDTs have the advanced technical and clinical skills needed to carefully design and hand-craft every denture to the individual requirements of the patient. In order to operate legally in the UK, a Clinical Dental Technician has to undergo rigorous training and evaluation over a minimum period of three years.
